Cheese Mistress, Linguist and Writer
Elizabeth Bland is a food writer for both trade and consumer publications, but she also covers local and national news events in non-culinary areas. She currently resides in New Jersey in the NYC metro area.
At the University of Texas at Austin, she earned a Ph.D. in Romance Linguistics with a focus on French and Italian. She also speaks German and has studied dialects and medieval languages. She is currently learning Yiddish. After teaching French and Italian during graduate school, she worked as a translator and cheese and wine instructor in Texas.
From 2006 to 2010, Elizabeth worked for a large importer of specialty and industrial foods. Besides writing copy, editing, and translating for the importer, she also traveled to demo cheese, trained staff, and ran cheese booths at trade shows. She has since continued writing and worked in kosher cheese retail in Brooklyn, NY for a year.
She is known as the Cheese Mistress. She also has a kosher cheese website at kcheese.com.
